Learning Focus
This kit introduces foundational coding and electronics skills through hands-on experimentation with sensors, lights, and outputs using the b.Board. Learners discover how code controls hardware and how technology can respond to the world around them. It builds the foundation for invention, creativity, innovation, and computational thinking.
Skill Development
Designed for progressive learning that builds confidence step by step: from beginner-friendly coding and basic circuits to more advanced projects that integrate multiple components. Learners move from cause-and-effect activities, like lighting an LED, to interactive builds that use sensors, logic, and radio communication.
STEAM Learning Outcomes
- Science: Explore how light, temperature, and motion can be detected and measured
- Technology: Code and control lights, sound, and movement.
- Engineering: Build and connect components to design working circuits and prototypes.
- Arts: Design creative projects that use colour, light, sound, and motion.
- Mathematics: Apply timing, sequencing, and patterns to make projects respond accurately.
Connected UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The project resources available with this kit connect learning to the global goals below. Additional SDGs may apply depending on each project.
- SDG 4 – Quality Education: Encourages accessible, hands-on learning that builds digital literacy and creative confidence.
- SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure: Develops engineering and coding skills that foster innovation and sustainable design.
- SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Expands equitable access to digital skills and technology for all learners.
What You’ll Need to Use This Kit
- BBC micro:bit: This is the programmable brain for the b.Board. If you’re purchasing a kit without a micro:bit, make sure you have one available to use at home.
- Device: Used to code, program, and run your projects. For the best experience, use a computer or laptop. If you’re using a mobile device, download the micro:bit app to connect and program your projects.
- USB Port or Adapter: The included cable is USB-A to micro-USB. If your computer has only USB-C ports, use a USB-C to USB-A adapter or a compatible USB-C to micro-USB cable.
- Internet Access: Needed to access tutorials and project resources.
